Biography

Sabelo Sibanda is a Pan-Afrikanist legal strategist, Human Rights Advocate, and the Founder of the International Alliance of Lawctivists. He coined the term Lawctivism to describe the strategic use of law as a tool to advance activist causes, particularly in pursuit of social justice, community empowerment, and Indigenous liberation, in contrast to how the legal system is often weaponised to entrench oppression and silence dissent.

Rooted in the philosophy of Ubuntu, Sibanda’s work bridges legal theory with grassroots activism. He champions Afrikan sovereignty, self-determination, and the preservation of traditional knowledge systems through legal education, strategic litigation, and policy reform. His engagements span civil society, traditional leadership, and community-based movements.

Internationally recognised for his contribution to justice and cultural heritage, Sibanda was named one of the Junior Chamber International Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World in 2004. His current focus includes challenging global health governance frameworks that undermine Afrikan agency and advancing a Pan-Afrikan legal architecture rooted in ancestral wisdom, unity, and people-centred development.
